The Grand Pilgrimage of Braj
Braj Chaurasi Kos Yatra is one of the most sacred pilgrimages in Hinduism, covering approximately 252 km (84 Kos) around the entire Braj Mandal. This parikrama encompasses all the holy places associated with Lord Krishna's divine pastimes, including Mathura, Vrindavan, Govardhan, Barsana, Nandgaon, Gokul, and hundreds of other sacred sites.
Route and Duration
The yatra traditionally takes about one month on foot, though organized groups often complete it in 15-20 days. The route passes through forests, fields, villages, and towns, each with its own story from Krishna's life. Devotees walk barefoot, singing bhajans and kirtans along the way.
The yatra typically starts from Mathura and proceeds through Vrindavan, Govardhan, Barsana, Nandgaon, Gokul, and back to Mathura, covering all 12 sacred forests (vanas) mentioned in the scriptures.
