About Dwarkadhish Temple

Dwarkadhish Temple is one of the most prominent and historically significant temples in Mathura, dedicated to Lord Krishna as the King of Dwarka. Built in 1814 by Seth Gokul Das Parikh, a wealthy devotee from Gwalior, this magnificent temple is a masterpiece of Rajasthani architectural style.

The temple is famous for its stunning painted ceilings, intricately carved pillars, and the beautiful deity of Dwarkadhish (Krishna as Lord of Dwarka). Located near Vishram Ghat, the temple offers a serene spiritual experience with its elegant courtyard and ornate interiors.

The temple plays a central role in Mathura's religious life, especially during festivals like Janmashtami, Holi, and the Swing Festival (Jhulan Yatra) when the deity is placed on beautifully decorated swings.

History

The Dwarkadhish Temple was built in 1814 by Seth Gokul Das Parikh, a wealthy treasurer from Gwalior. The temple was constructed at a cost of Rs. 30 lakhs (a fortune at that time) and took several years to complete.

The temple architecture reflects the Rajput-Mughal style common in the 19th century. Over the years, it has been well maintained and remains one of the best-preserved temples in Mathura.
